Reflective Presentations

Can either be written or video. Play to your strengths but also consider what works for your topic. Remember that a video will need a script (i.e. has a written element) but this should not just be read out but presented. Writing the script is a process of discovery about what you want to say.

Text can be used within a visual presentation to provide structure. Similarly a written presentation for visual arts should contain images.

The presentation does not have to be chronological or linear. You are presenting the highlights of your learning journey. Use the learning outcomes (as goals of the assessment criteria) to identify key markers in your learning and makes these coherent to your readers/viewers.

Remember that other aspects of your work may (should?) be organised along similar lines and so may help.

Ariadne questioned the use of presentations at Level 3 – apparently we can do a 20 minute presentation instead of a dissertation proposal. This is considered very difficult, mainly due to the presentation skills required – the point is to explain the research in depth and breadth, not to sell it or enthuse to the Assessor about it. As this is a visual subject thought needs to be given into what visuals could be presented.

For a critical review, a presentation might work better and could more obviously access visual examples.

Two other points:

  • Apparently Level 3.2 is almost wholly devoted to the dissertation or critical review?
  • Theory = “Better Regard” – i.e. a starting point for considering a topic?
